No two days in the life of a Recruitment Consultant are the same!
I arrive at the office before we open at 9am. I’ve already checked emails at home over breakfast and mentally planned my “urgent and important tasks” for the day in the car – Obviously whilst driving very safely and not singing (badly) to the radio.
I grab a coffee (Bruce and Luke’s of course), check emails again, catch up on the news (local and business) and create my to-do list… I LOVE LISTS!
We’ll have a catch up in the office and discuss candidates we have met with since our last catch up – This is really important, we all work with different clients and on different roles, a candidate might be just who another consultant is looking for!
Time to get on the phone and contact candidates that have recently registered or applied for positions online. We use this opportunity to discuss the position in more detail with the intention of arranging a meeting to discuss the position further.
From now until lunchtime I am meeting with candidates, registering new candidates and working with existing, discussing roles and their previous experience and identifying how else we can support candidates with their career aspirations. Meeting with someone to discuss their career path can be nerve-wracking for some but I promise, we just want to have a good chat and I’ll even try and tell a few jokes to put you at ease!
After lunch is always a good time to catch up with Clients – Often the people we work with are very busy people! We’ll discuss the role, the shortlist of candidates we’ve sent to them and arrange interviews for those they want to meet.
Candidates can apply for roles we are advertising but we actively head hunt too. Using social media, all of the major jobs boards, our own talent pool and by having insider knowledge of local talent, we will go out and attract people to the roles we are recruiting for.
I’m now off out for a coffee with a Director of a local business who I recently met at a local networking event. They have recently expanded and would like to know how we could support their business in finding the best people for their growing team. It’s important for us to be social and knowledgeable about other businesses, it helps to branch out and hopefully work together on projects.
I can’t wait to find out how my candidates got on this morning at their interviews. We might not get a decision for a couple of days from the client but interview feedback from candidates is just as valuable for us… We are with you every step of the way!
Time to catch up on admin duties such as chasing references and creating job adverts for roles that have came in that day. I’ll check the news again and of course social media.
A candidate can’t make it in to the office through the day to register with us, so I have asked them to come in after work. We appreciate candidates have other commitments and we try to be as flexible as possible and work around when is best for you.
Networking is a major aspect of recruitment and that is why personality it key. Every week I attend a business breakfast and at least once a month I am attending an evening event… Which I must admit does involve a cocktail or two!
The recruitment industry is as diverse as it is challenging and it’s safe to say that no two days are ever the same… But that’s what makes my role so exciting!
